It begins! Just a day or so into the Winter Olympics and arrests have already been made where LGBT activists were attempting to speak out.

At least 10 LGBT rights activists were detained in Moscow after waving rainbow flags on Red Square as the Olympics kicked off. And in St. Petersburg, four people were detained for holding up a banner displaying the Olympic Charter’s anti-discrimination message.

Human Rights First, a rights watchdog based in New York and Washington D.C., quickly condemned the arrests of Russian LGBT activists.

"The most alarming thing is, despite the international attention, the authorities are still bringing more charges under the law and it is being applied on a larger scale," spokesman Shawn Gaylord said in a statement.

Siiiiigh. Here we go.

Can we just take a second to admire the strength of these activist.
